In a world that is so heavily influenced by European culture…It’s not too hard to believe that our Fashion Industry has been and still remains predominately WHITE!!…WHY IS THAT? I’m not saying that there are absolutely no Blacks in the Industry…for we all are familiar with Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Alek Wek, Tyson Beckford, Djimon Hounsou, Shemar Moore, Boris Kodjoe and many others I neglected to name. Yet they only make up a small percentage of models that have made a major name for themselves by way of the Fashion Industry.
I’m not trying to make this into a racial issue, yet I feel the need to highlight the fact that in a world that is made up of so many diversities and cultures…why are we still not rightfully represented on all the major fashion runways. So that leaves one to wonder…Is Black really the NEW BLACK? I would love to get everyone’s feedback on the matter.
In the meantime…please be so kind as to check out this link that was started by the editor of Italian Vogue to promote the beauty of the Black Model: http://www.vogue.it/en/vogue-black
