This year marks the 35th anniversary of the death of the great Josephine Baker (June 3, 1906 – April 12, 1975) who was an American expatriate entertainer and actress. She became a French citizen in 1937. Most noted as a singer, Baker also was a celebrated dancer in the early 1920s. She was given the nicknames the “Bronze Venus” or the “Black Pearl”, as well as the “Créole Goddess” in anglophone nations. In France, she will always be known as “La Baker”. I shot this series of images to celebrate the life and legacy of the Beautiful “La Josephine Baker”!!
