When I first began this campaign I had no idea that it would catch on with the velocity that has been witnessed. For the second segment I decided to add some video testimonials of various Blacks and their personal experiences here in the States. It’s one thing to look at an image and draw inspiration, however it’s an all together different encounter to hear the voices of those that have walked, felt, cried and endured situations in life that could potentially help and or inspire someone else. I would love for each person that is following this movement, regardless to where you may be in the world, to share your story with me and others. You may be surprised to learn that your experience may help someone to overcome a fear, stereotype, or insecurity! I would like each person that reads this post to take out 5 minutes or less to film a short diary entry about yourself and email it to me @ firstname.lastname@example.org. I will then post it for others to hear and experience. NAKED BLACK JUSTICE…We are not a STEREOTYPE…but we are making a STATEMENT!!!…so let me hear yours!!!

This photography campaign was designed to bring attention to the issues of racism, prejudice and overall ignorance that has been impressed upon Black Americans. This is no longer just a statement…it has become a MOVEMENT to get others to understand that the world would be such a better place if we could just ERASE THE HATE!! Nudity was implemented to demonstrate the RAW REALITY of these issues…so if it causes you to become uncomfortable while viewing this…GOOD…maybe it will challenge you and others to take a stand against these injustices. If you would like to become apart of this Awesome Campaign…Feel free to contact Photographer James C. Lewis via Facebook @ https://www.facebook.com/noire3000
This campaign will be presented in a Gallery Exhibition towards the end of this year. Exact dates & location to be announced in the coming months. Please feel free to share this link on your facebook pages, twitter, personal blogs, websites and any other social media to get the word out! NAKED BLACK JUSTICE IS DEFINITELY A MESSAGE THAT MUST BE HEARD!!!
Wikipedia defines Censorship as the suppression of speech or other communication which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, or inconvenient to the general body of people as determined by a government, media outlet, or other controlling body.
For centuries in Europe, artist such as Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Botticelli to name a few, painted wonderful masterpieces that depicted the glorious beauty of the human form in all it’s splendor!! Sculptures were chiseled to perfection of the great biblical and mythical icons of that day along with adorning masterpieces that canvased the walls of the majestic cathedrals.
So…with all that being said that leaves me with one question…WHAT’S THE BIG ISSUE WITH CENSORSHIP IN AMERICA? Why do we shy away from the site of a nipple, the folds of the vagina and the curvature of the penis? I seriously believe we have blurred the lines between art and pornography so to the point that no one can really decipher the difference. I would like to change that perception with my works, even though I am yet forced to conform to what the government has established as the suitable norm, I continue to express my point of view with tasteful yet jaw dropping images.
In a world that is so heavily influenced by European culture…It’s not too hard to believe that our Fashion Industry has been and still remains predominately WHITE!!…WHY IS THAT? I’m not saying that there are absolutely no Blacks in the Industry…for we all are familiar with Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Alek Wek, Tyson Beckford, Djimon Hounsou, Shemar Moore, Boris Kodjoe and many others I neglected to name. Yet they only make up a small percentage of models that have made a major name for themselves by way of the Fashion Industry.
I’m not trying to make this into a racial issue, yet I feel the need to highlight the fact that in a world that is made up of so many diversities and cultures…why are we still not rightfully represented on all the major fashion runways. So that leaves one to wonder…Is Black really the NEW BLACK? I would love to get everyone’s feedback on the matter.
In the meantime…please be so kind as to check out this link that was started by the editor of Italian Vogue to promote the beauty of the Black Model: http://www.vogue.it/en/vogue-black
